# Welcome to the Kingdom Gate
**Commander**, the survival of our realm is in your hands.
As the gatekeeper, your responsibility goes far beyond simple border control. The plague is relentless, resources are dwindling, and the kingdom's stability hangs by a fraying thread. Every decision carries weight, and every visitor could be the catalyst for our downfall.
## Your Duty
- **Interrogate Travelers:** Question every soul that approaches. Every day, the crowd grows larger (+1 traveler per day). Use your intuition to find the safe ones.
- **Economic Mastery:** Admitted citizens contribute resources but consume them every night.
- **Civilians:** Moderate resources, low consumption.
- **Caravans:** High resources, high consumption.
- **Knights:** Good resources, moderate consumption.
*Beware of Famine events where newcomers bring nothing but their hunger.*
- **Plague Containment:** Admitting an infected person causes a massive stability drop (-20). Rejecting an innocent also hurts our morale (-8). If stability hits zero, the kingdom collapses.
- **Spot the Infection:** The rot is deceptive. Listen for stutters, mid-sentence coughs, or strange behavior. Use the "Ask Health" action to probe deeper.
- **Resident Vigilance:** Your job doesn't end at the gate. Check your residents daily. They can catch the plague overnight, and if they aren't evicted, they will trigger a total outbreak.
## The Winds of Change (Daily Events)
The kingdom is subject to the whims of fate. Each day (from Day 2 onwards), a unique event may trigger, visible on your HUD and detailed in your Journal:
- **❄️ Harsh Winter:** Resource consumption is **doubled** tonight.
- **☣️ Plague Surge:** Infection rates among travelers are significantly higher.
- **🍂 Famine:** Newcomers bring **zero resources** with them today.
- **👁️ Paranoia:** The cost of rejecting healthy people is **tripled**.
## Advanced Interaction
- **Special Characters:** Unique individuals with distinct branching stories and custom audio greetings/farewells. Pay attention; their impact is greater than a standard citizen.
- **Dialogue Control:** You can now end conversations at any time. Use the "Goodbye" button to walk away from a visitor without making an immediate choice.
## The Commander's Journal
Press **[1]** to open your journal. It now provides a detailed live report:
- Live stability tracking and current resource counts.
- Clear breakdowns of nightly resource costs.
- Active event warnings (including calculated "Harsh Winter" costs).
- Historical infection rates to help you gauge the city's health.
## Psychological Hazards
Commander, be warned. Long hours at the gate and the weight of your choices may take a toll on your mind. Players have reported hearing strange whispers and seeing unsettling messages flicker across their vision. If the walls feel like they are closing in, or you feel something watching from the other side of your screen... remember your duty.
### Secrets and Easter Eggs
The kingdom holds many mysteries. From special sound cues to hidden character interactions, there is much to discover for the observant Commander. Explore your surroundings and interact with the world to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
